Biography:

Dr. Jason Dierking is a Board Certified general surgeon, and FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons), who lives and works in Storm Lake Iowa with his wife Erika, and his two children, Emma and Cooper.

Jason prides himself on providing an amazing level of care and compassion when working with his patients. He knows that when you come to see him, it’s not just another day at the office, and he’ll be there with you every step of the way.

Dr. Dierking offers a full range of surgical services including the latest in minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Dierking specializes in disorders of the stomach, small bowel, colon, gallbladder, head and neck, colon, abdomen and skin. In addition, he manages trauma and emergency surgical conditions.

Dr. Dierking graduated from the University of Iowa College of Engineering with a degree in Biomedical Engineering in 1998. His academic achievements in college included being the recipient of numerous academic scholarships, graduation with distinction in his major, and publication of multiple research publications as well as presentation of his anatomical research on an international level.

These achievements allowed Dr. Dierking to be awarded admission to the University of Iowa College of Medicine through the prestigious early admission program by which a small number of candidates are accepted early in their college career. During his time at medical school in Iowa City, Dr. Dierking continued to be actively involved in anatomical research and began to focus his career towards surgery.

Following medical school Dr. Dierking applied for a post-graduate residency in surgery at Spartanburg Regional Hospital, South Carolina and was accepted. During his time in South Carolina Dr. Dierking continued to pursue academic research publishing several papers and was twice awarded by faculty and staff as ‘Intern of the Year’ and ‘Resident of The Year’. He gained an enormous breadth of experience caring for a wide variety of cancer patients through the Gibbs Cancer Center as well as performing as a trauma surgeon at the busy level 1 trauma center.

The wide variety of experience gained helped prepare Dr. Dierking to handle the demands of providing surgical care in a rural setting while maintaining the same standards of care as a ‘big city’ hospital. Drawn by his roots and the dream of providing state of the art surgical care in a rural setting Dr. Dierking returned to his hometown of Storm Lake Iowa and opened his practice with a satellite office in Cherokee, Iowa.

Dr. Dierking continues to be academically involved, instructing medical students and regularly appearing as a speaker at various local and regional medical education conferences. Dr. Dierking participates in the rigorous certification process of the American Board Of Surgery, having scored in the 98th percentile of all participating surgeons in the United States on his board examination.

His desire to remain on the forefront of surgical technology ensures that patients can have the personal care a hometown hospital offers as well as the most innovative and advanced surgical care available.
