Ten high school students in Buena Vista County learned more about the health care field while gaining hands on experience through a summer internship program at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.
The week-long summer internship allowed students to learn about various departments at BVRMC, including nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology and rehab therapy. Upon completion of the internship program, students received a scholarship.
“It was amazing to work here, and I had a lot of fun. The staff was very welcoming and kind,” says Jazmin Durazo-Vazquez, a Sioux Central High School student who completed the summer internship program. “This internship will impact my career in the future because it showed me what I like and what I didn’t like and guided me toward a path I didn’t even know existed.”
“We have been fortunate to have student interns again this summer and hope this experience has been the first step for them on their path toward their dream job in the health care field,” says Executive Director of Human Resources Carrie Turnquist.
