BVRMC Oncology & Infusion Center Helps Community Stay Safe in the Sun

Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s Oncology & Infusion Center donated gallons of sunscreen to area schools to promote staying safe in the sun during summer activities.

Sunscreen was provided to Alta-Aurelia, Newell-Fonda, Ridge View, Sioux Central, Storm Lake and Storm Lake St. Mary’s schools.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. BVRMC encourages community members to protect themselves in the sun by using sunscreen.

“Using sunscreen is one of the best ways you can protect your skin from skin damage and skin cancer,” says Deb Colshan, BVRMC Director of Oncology. “We are glad to help provide sunscreen to our local schools so that they can stay safe while enjoying their summer activities.”

This program is made possible by the Iowa Cancer Consortium and the Iowa Department of Public Health.
