Buena Vista Regional Medical Center will gradually resume elective surgeries over the next few weeks. Procedures are being put in place to keep both patients and staff safe.
Surgery patients will be screened prior to procedures, as well as the day of surgery. Any patients that do not pass screening or have COVID-19 symptoms will not have surgery. Patients will be encouraged to self-isolate for 14 days prior to surgery.
Current visitor restrictions remain in place. Instructions on drop off and pickup will be given via phone to caregivers. Medical staff will also keep the assigned caregiver updated via text and phone during and after procedure.
BVRMC will follow CDC guidelines for use of personal protective equipment during all surgical procedures.
“This is not business as usual, but does allow us to see cases that we have had to put off during the time of COVID-19,” says Chief Clinical Officer Dawn Bach. “Patient and staff safety is our upmost priority and we will be constantly evaluating our process.”
