6 year old Jayden Lightfoot has never heard a bird sing or any other distinctive sounds in his lifetime. He has had very limited hearing. After a recent visit to BVRMC Specialty Clinic, Jayden now has the gift of hearing, with help from a Cochlear™ Bone Anchored Hearing Aid (Baha©).
Dr. Wellendorf, ENT, Board Certified Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeon, and Specialty Doctor for Buena Vista Regional Medical Center has been working with Jayden and his mom, Kendra, to find a solution for Jayden. The device sits on a bendable sound arch band that he will wear like a headband. Jayden may be a candidate for two bilateral Bahas and down the road he may have the surgical implantations instead of the sound arch.
Jayden can now hear his teacher from the back room and other sounds he has not been able to hear since birth. The Baha© device should help Jayden participate in all his activities.
“Helping Jayden hear sounds that most of us take for granted is truly one of the best parts of my job”, states Dr. Wellendorf.
Jayden and Kendra Lightfoot (front) are thankful for Jodi Wellendorf, RN, BSN, trained in Baha programing, Dr. Tracey Wellendorf, and Jenn Brosh, RN, CORLN, for helping Jayden receive the gift of hearing.
